Environmental window of cyanobacteria bloom occurrence

چکیده

Summer cyanobacteria blooms regularly occur in the Baltic Sea. The phenology of bloom, however, is mostly unknown. Data total biomass bloom-forming species Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon sp. and Dolichospermum spp., water column variables, nutrients weather conditions were used to study define optimum environmental window for occurrence Gotland Basin during period 1990–2017. intra-annual variability was modeled using a Weibull function partial least squares regression variables that explain timing onset, peak decline stages bloom. On average lasted 41±16 days, starting mid-June, reaching maximum observed by mid-July ending end July with three 79, 353 161 µg L−1, respectively. onset bloom driven sea surface temperature (14 °C), air outgoing long-wave radiation (−68 W m−2), mixed layer depth (26 m), stability expressed as Brunt–Väisälä frequency (−0.02 s−2), phosphate concentration (0.1 mmol m−3) wind speed (5 m s−1). time controlled sensible (41 m−2) latent (−3 heat flux. incoming solar (218 net flux (178 (35 (−12 m−3). If occurs early or lasts longer depends on overall effect these explanatory have each stage results show part exchange takes place between overlying atmosphere, components are rarely included bloom-related studies. also can be an approach favor it.

Cyanobacteria bloom: selective filter for zooplankton?

The Ibirité reservoir is an urban and eutrophic environment, with regular occurrences of cyanobacteria blooms. The reservoir is warm monomict and remains stratified most of the year, circulating in the dry season (winter). During the hydrological cycle of October/07 to October/08 there were four scenarios with different environmental conditions, which influenced the structure of the zooplankton...

Bloom Dynamics of Cyanobacteria and Their Toxins: Environmental Health Impacts and Mitigation Strategies

Cyanobacteria are ecologically one of the most prolific groups of phototrophic prokaryotes in both marine and freshwater habitats. Both the beneficial and detrimental aspects of cyanobacteria are of considerable significance. They are important primary producers as well as an immense source of several secondary products, including an array of toxic compounds known as cyanotoxins. Abundant growt...

Antioxidative Activity of Superoxide Dismutase in Bloom Forming Cyanobacteria

Cyanobacteria are autotrophic prokaryotes with excellent antioxidative system that scavenges reactive oxygen species produced during photosynthesis. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) represent the primary defence against oxygen damage. The antioxidative activity of SOD enzymes was determined in cultures of the bloom forming cyanobacteria Anabaena variabilis and Synechococcus elongates. Experimental re...

COCA Filters: Co-occurrence Aware Bloom Filters

We propose an indexing data structure based on a novel variation of Bloom filters. Signature files have been proposed in the past as a method to index large text databases though they suffer from a high false positive error problem. In this paper we introduce COCA Filters, a new type of Bloom filters which exploits the co-occurrence probability of words in documents to reduce the false positive...

Autonomous Surface Vessel for Toxic Cyanobacteria Bloom Examination

Scientists of the limnological station in Kilchberg, Switzerland are surveing the bloom of the toxic cyanobacteria in the lake of Zurich. So far, measurements have only been taken at a specific point on the lake. For better spatial understanding of the bloom in relation with geological changes, an Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) is being developed. This ASV is equipped with a probe which can be...
